We offer a wide selection of nutrient dense vegetables, greens, herbs, flowers and some fruit that are all grown on our farm without synthetic chemicals. We grow a wide diversity of produce including:
Salad greens (endive, escarole, lettuce, mesclun mix, radicchio, and spinach); root crops (potatoes, sweet potatoes, carrots, beets, radishes, turnips, onions and garlic); brassicas (broccoli, brussel sprouts, cauliflower, kale, cabbage, bok choy, mustard greens, arugula, napa cabbage, asian greens and kohlrabi); summer crops (beans, cherry tomatoes, cucumbers, eggplant, peppers, summer squash, and tomatoes); fruits (watermelon, cantaloupe, honeydew melons, and strawberries) and more, like fennel, leeks, winter squash, pumpkins, and swiss chard. We also have a small selection of herbs, and we grow a diverse selection of flowers. |
We have about 400 laying hens. Our chickens are raised on pasture, which means they are outside all day (free-range) and have access to grass and bugs. We regularly rotate them to fresh pasture to allow regrowth in the previous area and provide fresh grass and bugs. We also feed our chickens GMO-free grain from Green Mountain Feeds (the corn and soybeans in the feed are NOT genetically modified and most of the other ingredients are certified organic). They also get vegetable scraps from the farm (chickens love heirloom tomatoes, greens, cucumbers, and just about any vegetable). This makes their eggs very tasty and nutritious, with deep yellow/orange yolks.

We sell 100% Pure Massachusetts Maple Syrup from the Berkshires (Holiday Brook Farm in Dalton, MA). Holiday Brook Farm is a diversified farm with a rich history. They grow vegetables, make maple syrup, offer firewood from their sustainably managed forests, and raise grass-fed cattle and pastured pigs. This is the farm that we apprenticed on for 2 years before we started Apponagansett Farm. Each year we make the trek back to Dalton and bottle syrup and bring this delicious product back to Dartmouth. The sugar bush (a stand of sugar maple trees) is a sustainably managed stand, and the sap is boiled with a wood fire. Nothing is added to the maple syrup and everything we sell comes from this small sugarhouse.
The grading system for maple syrup has changed (see the Mass. Maple Association for more information). We have Grade A Amber, Dark, and Very Dark available in 1/2 pint, pint, and quart jugs. We also have maple syrup in decorative glass. We currently sell the maple syrup at our farm stand (June - November) and at the Pawtucket Wintertime Market on Saturday mornings from 9 am to 1 pm. |
