Farm update & online sign-up
We are super excited to finally be entering the 21st century! You can now sign-up and pay for a CSA share online! You can still mail in your sign-up form and payment, but now you have the option to do it all online.
We are also very excited to get back to work on the farm. It has been another winter of weird weather, so we are starting to gear up for an early spring (maybe it is just wishful thinking, but it doesn't hurt to be prepared). That means it is time for spring cleaning! Today we cleaned out the farm store. Next is the greenhouse, and in a couple of short weeks we will be planting our leeks and onions in the greenhouse.
Because of the crazy weather, we are keeping a close eye on our asian pear trees. We are pruning all of the trees right now, which is one of my favorite tasks on the farm. It is very zen-like trying to figure out which branches should go and in which direction you want the tree to grow. Our trees are on a two year cycle and 2016 should be a great year for our asian pears, as long as they don't blossom too soon (crazy weather) or get munched by winter moths.
Hopefully we will have crazy blossoms this spring like two years ago:
Spring is also a time for new life on the farm and little seedlings are not the only ones that will be popping up... all three of our goats are pregnant. Patsy, the elder stateswoman and a pro at having kids, is on birth watch right now. She could give birth anytime in the next 2 weeks. Within weeks of her, Sweet Pea and Beanie should also give birth.
