We are not certified organic, but we don't use chemical pesticides, fertilizers, herbicides, or fungicides. We also don't grow any genetically modified organisms (GMOs). We practice nutrient dense farming, which means we work on balancing minerals in the soil to what the plants need and believe that healthy soils grow healthy plants. We use compost, cover crops, natural occurring minerals and organic fertilizers to nourish our plants. We limit pest damage by using row covers, rotational planting, and removing some pests by hand. We use a small cultivating tractor to keep weeds in check, but we also do a lot of hoeing and hand weeding!
Do I need to contribute work as part of my share?
No. We do not require a work commitment from our members. If you would like to help with a harvest or other farm activities we would be happy to get your help.
Do you have a work share option?
Yes! The majority of what you will be doing is harvesting and weeding; however, you will get other experience helping with seeding, transplanting, and other farm projects. Our two main harvest days are Tuesdays and Saturdays, so we are looking for people to work from 9am to 3:30pm on either Tuesday or Saturday. We have a couple of other potential work days, so let us know if Tuesday or Saturday don't fit into your schedule. Work share members need to be able to commit to the full 20 week CSA season (June through October). In exchange for your hard work (6 hours per week), you will receive a free regular share for the full 20 week season plus a dozen eggs each week. Contact us for more information.
Do you offer egg shares?
We do offer egg shares at our off-farm distribution sites. We don't offer eggs shares at our on-farm distributions, because we have our eggs for sale during CSA distribution. We feed our chickens GMO-free grain, and our chickens are free-range and raised on pasture (they eat bugs, grass, and our veggie scraps), so the yolks are deep yellow and the eggs taste great.
Do you have short term shares for summer residents?
We offer a 10 week short season CSA that is July, August and the first week of September for summer residents, or people who just want summer veggies. Contact us for more information if you are looking for something shorter than 10 weeks. We also have a farm stand open daily during the summer and we are at the Dartmouth Farmers' Market on Fridays from 1-6 pm.
